The Test

The Test by Sylvain Neuvel is a very quick adult fiction read by the author of Sleeping Giants.

In the not-to-distant future, Idir is just starting to take Britain’s citizenship test. In this world, only the eldest male of the family has to take the test. If he passes, the whole family becomes citizens. If he fails, they are all immediately put on a plane back to their country.

Idir, wants to become a citizen. He wants to build a better life for his family. Twenty-five questions stands in his way and he is determined to pass.

When an unexpected disaster strikes, Idir is placed in a position where he holds the power of life and death in his hands. What will he do to survive? What will he to save his family? And more importantly… will he pass the test?

What in the actual H.E. double hockey sticks did I just read! Seriously, I finished this book on Monday and I cannot stop thinking about it. I also can’t stop talking about it. That is how much of an impression this book has left on me and I am not a 100% sure if it is because of the shock factor or if it was just that good.

The Test is basically a psychological “thriller”/commentary/mind f*ck. It’s basically a fictional experiment in human behavior. And dudeeee, the last page-and-a-half alone is seriously messed up! I was literally sitting there like whaaaaat.

That’s it. That’s all I am saying about this one because I don’t want to give anything away; I don’t want to ruin the effect for anyone. I read this one in two sittings and like I said, I can’t stop thinking about it. Therefore, this book gets a solid 4 stars. I’m not sure if it’s for everyone because it is twisty, but if you want a quick read that will stay with you, then dive in.

That’s all for now!
