I Know Who You Are

I Know Who You Are by Alice Feeney is an adult psychological thriller / whodunit.

Aimee Sinclair is an up and coming actress on the verge of becoming a real star. Near the end of filming her latest movie, she comes home one night to find her husbands wallet, phone and car keys sitting on the counter but he is no where to be found.

At first she isn’t concerned, due to the blow up they had the night before, but when she goes to the bank the next morning to find 10,000 pounds missing from her account, alarm bells go off. When the police tell her that she was the one who took out the money, she begins to question her sanity. Due to a trauma from her childhood, she’s always been suspected to have stints of memory loss… but she remembers everything.

Alternating between the present and the story of a little girl who wandered away from home and got more than lost, is a story of full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing.

I very much enjoyed Feeney’s other book, Sometimes I Lie. It had the perfect twist and did keep you guessing. You were also invested in the character and concerned about her, which made the ending even better. But this one just didn’t do it for me. Yes, the twist did in fact surprise me and I really thought I called it. But Amiee, didn’t evoke much emotion in me whatsoever.

I think the main reason this book bugged me was because of how often Amiee repeated herself and how she’d jump back and forth between being strong/scared/upset/determined. She kept telling us that she remembers everything and then questions her memory practically on the same page. She’s a great actress but she can’t hide her emotions. She was one of those characters that felt like a broken record.

If you like a good twist–this one has it. If you want a psychological thriller with a strong character and a good twist–maybe try Sometimes I Lie instead. This one gets only two stars from me.

That’s all for now!
