Family Storytime – 9/14/19 – Weather

Family Storytime – 9/14/19 – Weather

  1. Song – Top of the Morning

  2. This is a fun tune and great for waking up and doing a little stretching. It’s called Top of the Morning.

  3. Hello Rhyme – Say Hello

  4. This is a great rhyme for saying hello because we get to do it in so many fun ways!

  5. Stretch – Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

  6. I do this one three times, faster and faster each time.

  7. ASL – RAIN / WIND / UMBREALLA

  8. I always teach three or four signs based on our theme in my family storytimes. Check out Signing Savvy or Baby Sign Language to learn these signs.

  9. Rhyme –  The Rain Comes Down

  10. I thought this was a fun movement rhyme and can’t wait to try it out.

The rain comes down with a pitter pitter pat. (finger rain) Pitter pitter pat. Pitter pitter pat. The rain comes down with a pitter pitter pat. Helping all things grow.

The rain comes down with a splish splish splash. (slap thighs) Splish splish splash. Splish splish splash. The rain come down with a splish splish splash. Helping all things grow.

The rain comes down with a crash crash boom. (stomp feet) Crash crash boom. Crash crash boom. The rain comes down with a crash crash boom. Helping all things grow. (https://www.mystorytimecorner.com/little-cloud-weather-story-time/)

  1. Book – The Big Storm by Nancy Tafuri

  2. Tafuri books just have the best, BIG illustrations, which are perfect for a big group.

  3. Rhyme – The Itsy Bitsy Spider

  4. I don’t think it is possible to do a weather theme without this gem!

The Itsy Bitsy Spider went up the water spout. Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sun and dried up all the rain. And the Itsy Bitsy Spider went up the spout again.

  1. Activity – Gross Motor Cube –Rain Dance

  1. I’m re-purposing my gross motor cube to create our own rain dance!

  2. Book/Felt Board – The Wind Blew In by Pat Hutchins

  3. I created my own magnet board for this one and I am really excited about it!

  4. Rhyme/Scarves – One Bright Scarf

  5. I am going to pass out scarves for this one and we are going to pretend it blows in the wind.

One bright scarf waiting for the wind to blow (hold in hand) Wiggle it high (wiggle scarf above head) Wiggle it low (wiggle scarf by knees) Shake it fast (wiggle scarf quickly) Shake it slow (wiggle scarf slowly) Put it behind your back, Where did it go? (bring out empty hands) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVpwhTmGXFY)

  1. Rhyme/Shakers – Noisy Wind (tune-farmer in the del)

  2. Then it’s time to pass out those shakers!

I like the noisy wind I like the noisy wind It roars and mutters (loud, then soft) And shakes and shutters (shake eggs) I like the noisy wind (Harris County Public Library)

  1. Song/Shakers –  Walking on Sunshine

  1. What a fun weather related song! And it’s an adult song that is clean, so extra points!

  2. Rhyme – If You’re Happy and You Know It

  3. I’ll include this one if we have time but with my speaker, I want to wrap up a little quicker than normal.

  4. Rhyme – Say Goodbye

  5. This is the same rhyme we started with, so the new guys are familiar with it by the end of storytime.

  6. Song – Clean It Up! by The Laurie Berkner Band

  7. Everyone helps put our shakers away.

  8. Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell my Friends by Music Together

  9. I always put this one on as I go to open the door. Its a nice, slow, peaceful song to wind down on.

How’d it go:

Phew! It’s hard to do this storytime in a smaller room, but today we had no choice. Besides being a bit crowded, we all had a good time and The Wind Blew worked really well.

That’s all for now!
