Hello Rhyme – Hello Little Babies
I needed a new baby rhyme and I couldn’t find one I liked, so I made this one up myself. Use it as you will!
Hello little babies, let’s stretch up high. Stretch so high, you reach the sky. Now wave little babies and say hello. Say hello, good morning.
ASL – MOUSE / SORRY / CHEESE
For my babies I teach them three vocabulary words in American Sign Language each week. We do a lot of repeats and stick to the easy movement signs. I generally use Baby Sign Language.com to check my signs.
Song – Tap Your Toe and Follow Me by Susan Salidor
I use this one a lot. It’s one of my favorite movement songs for babies.
Board Book – Mouse Says “Sorry” by Michael Dahl
I’m sort of on the fence about this one but I wanted a mouse board book that I could pass out to encourage one-on-one reading and this was the only one I could get enough copies of in time. It has fun picture and you can definitely play it up.
Rhyme – Slowly, Slowly, Very Slowly
This one can be done as a tickle or as a finger play up and down baby’s arms or tummy.
Slowly, slowly, very slowly up the garden rail Slowly, slowly, very slowly creeps the garden snail Quickly, quickly, very quickly all around the house. Quickly, quickly, very quickly runs the garden mouse.
Flannel/Puppet – Mouse Guessing Game
I created some flannel doors with animals behind them and I am going to have us search for the mouse. We will identify the doors by their colors and the animals by sounds.
Song – The Little Mice by Kathy Reid-Naiman
Just a fun song to wiggle around too. We can creep on baby’s arms if we want to go with the words of the song.
Finger Play – Hickory, Dickory, Dock
A classic you say. I thought we could tap baby’s nose when the clock strikes.
Hickory, dickory, dock, The mouse ran up the clock; The clock struck one, And down he run, Hickory, dickory, dock.
Rhyme – Little Clapping Mouse
This is a new one any may be too ambitious but it has lots of clapping and our babies love to clap!
Behind the tree * * And under the house * * There lived a teeny * * Tiny mouse * * She loved to sing * * She loved to tap * * But most of all * * She loved to clap * * She clapped all night * * She clapped all day * * She clapped to frighten * * The cat away * * * * * * * * (lots of claps)
Book – Mouse Squeak, We Speak by Tomie dePaola
I’ve got the big one for this and we love to make the sounds of the different animals. It also has a good rhyme.
Lift – Going up and down in an elevator
Bounce – Boing! Boing! Squeak!
I thought we’d try this one by Jack Prelutsky- New Kid on the Block as a bounce.
Boing! Boing! Squeak! Boing! Boing! Squeak! A bouncing mouse is in my house, It’s been there for a week. It bounced from out of nowhere, Then quickly settled in. I’m grateful that it came alone, I’ve heard it has a twin. It bounces in the kitchen, It bounces in the den, It bounces through the living room — Look! There it goes again.
Song/Shaker – Mouse In My Toolbox by The Laurie Berkner Band
Another cute mouse song to shake to!
Song/Bubbles – Splish Splash by Mr. AI
Kids love bubbles and they are great for strengthening the eye muscles that we later use for reading.
Goodbye Rhyme – Goodbye Little Babies
This is my goodbye version of the rhyme I made up for hello.
Goodbye little babies, let’s touch our toes. Touch your toes, reach down low. Now wave little babies and say goodbye. Say goodbye, so long.
Song – Clean It Up by Laurie Berkner
Any good clean up song will do. I like this one.
Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by K. Guilmartin
I will always put this one on in the background as everyone leaves because I just love it!
How’d it go:
And I thought last weeks group was big! Phew! We especially liked the “Little Clapping Mouse” rhyme and it worked as an attention grabber to bring the room back to order.
That’s all for now!
