Literacy Tip - READ

Reading to our children will not only instill a love of reading but will expand their vocabulary and build comprehension skills. Early literacy tip for caregivers- When you are out walking or driving, point out colors and words on road signs.

Rhyme – Rolling Rolling Little Hands

Rolling, rolling little hands

Rolling down the street

Rolling slowly

Rolling faster

Rolling, rolling little hands.

Tapping, tapping little toes

Clapping, clapping little hands

Hugging, hugging little arms…hugging tight, hugging tighter

Prop/Flannel - Whose in My Barn?

For this one, I printed out 6 red barns and 6 different animals to hide underneath them. Then I made the sounds of each animal and we guessed who was in my barn.

Rhyme – See the Little Mousie

See the little mousie (circle finger on baby’s hand)

Creeping up the stair. (move hands up baby’s arm)

Looking for a warm nest, (move fingers up arm)

There, oh, there! (tickle armpit)

Song – One Little Finger by Super Simple Songs

Book – I Spy on the Farm by Edward Gibbs

Lift – Up, Up, Up

Up, up, up (lift baby up)

Down, down, down (bring baby back down)

Up, down, up, down (up and down motion)

And tickles all around (tickle baby)

Bounce – Boing! Boing! Squeak!

Boing! Boing! Squeak! Boing! Boing! Squeak!

A bouncing mouse is in my house,

It’s been there for a week.

It bounced from out of nowhere,

Then quickly settled in.

I’m grateful that it came alone,

I’ve heard it has a twin.

It bounces in the kitchen,

It bounces in the den,

It bounces through the living room —

Look! There it goes again.

Goodbye Rhyme – With My Little Hands

With my little hands I go clap, clap, clap

With my little feet I go tap, tap, tap

With my little arms I wave bye, bye, bye

With my little legs I kick high, high, high

With my little eyes I play peek-a-boo

With my little mouth I say “I love you”
