It was so exciting to be back for in-person storytimes. Here's what I had planned for my first Baby Storytime back in the branch:
Hello Rhyme – Clap Every Body and Say Hello
Clap everybody and say hello,
Say hello, say hello
Clap everybody and say hello,
Say hello today
Wave everybody and say hello,
Say hello, say hello.
Wave everybody and say hello,
Say hello today.
Bounce everybody and say hello,
Say hello, say hello.
Bounce everybody and say hello,
Say hello today.
ASL – MORE / PLEASE
For my babies I like to teach new vocabulary words in American Sign Language each week. We do a lot of repeats and stick to the easy movement signs. I generally use Baby Sign Language.com to check my signs.
Literacy Tip - Brain Synapses
This was something I got from a Mother Goose On The Loose training I attended and it was awesome! It was all about how children make different connections when we read, sing, play, etc. with them.
Song – Wake Up Toes by Joanie Bartels
Board Book – “Peek-A-Moo" by Marie Torres Cimarusti
I pass out copies of at least one of my board books to encourage one-on-one reading.
Rhyme – Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum
Fe fi fo fum. (Touch each finger with thumb-one finger per syllable.)
See my fingers. (Hold up four fingers.)
See my thumb. (Hold up thumb.)
Fe fi fo fum. (Touch each finger with thumb again.)
Rhyme – Rolling, Rolling Little Hands
Rolling, rolling little hands
Rolling down the street
Rolling slowly
Rolling faster
Rolling, rolling little hands.
Tapping, tapping little toes
Clapping, clapping little hands
Hugging, hugging little arms…hugging tight, hugging tighter
Prop - “Thank You Bear” by Greg Foley
Broke out the puppets for this one!
Song – Hands are for clapping by Jim Gill
Rhyme – Little Clapping Mouse
Behind the tree * *
And under the house * *
There lived a teeny * *
Tiny mouse * *
She loved to sing * *
She loved to tap * *
But most of all * *
She loved to clap * *
She clapped all night * *
She clapped all day * *
She clapped to frighten * *
The cat away * * * * * * * * (lots of claps)
Book – “Piggies” by Audrey Wood
First storytime back, I had to pick a personal favorite of mine.
Lift – Going Up and Down in an Elevator
Going up and down in an elevator.
Up and down in an elevator.
Up and down in an elevator.
1st floor. 2nd floor. 3rd floor. DOWN!
Bounce – Giddy-Up, Giddy-Up
Giddy-up, giddy up ride to town (bounce babies on knees)
Giddy-up, giddy-up up and down (lift baby up and down)
Giddy-up fast (bounce quickly)
Giddy up slow (bounce slowly)
Giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy-up, whoa! (dip baby backwards gently)
Song/Shakers - Can’t Stop the Feeling by Trolls Soundtrack
Song/Bubbles - Bubble Bath by Joanie Bartels
Bubbles are great because when we track the bubbles with our eyes, we are actually strengthening the eye muscles we later use when we learn to read.
Goodbye Rhyme – Clap Everybody and Say Goodbye
Clap everybody and say goodbye,
Say goodbye, say goodbye.
Clap everybody and say goodbye,
Say goodbye today.
Wave everybody and say goodbye,
Say goodbye, say goodbye.
Wave everybody and say goodbye,
Say goodbye today.
Bounce everybody and say goodbye,
Say goodbye, say goodbye.
Bounce everybody and say goodbye,
Say goodbye today.
Song – Clean It Up by Laurie Berkner
Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by K. Guilmartin
How'd it go:
Everything went really well! Baby storytime is my favorite and I think everyone was grateful to be back.
That's all for now!
