Baby Storytime – 4/16/18

It’s that time again! Baby storytime for 0-12 months.

Here’s what we did this week:

  1. Welcome Rhyme – Welcome, welcome

  2. Since my group has been big lately, I have switched to this easy rhyme as an intro. It goes to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

Welcome, welcome everyone. Now you’re here, we’ll have some fun. First we’ll clap our hands just so. Then we’ll bend and touch our toes. Welcome, welcome everyone. Now you’re here, we’ll have some fun!

  1. ASL – Hello Friends

  2. I like to use sign language in my story time. We go over the signs for: Hello, Friends, Time and Say. Thanks to Jbrary for this one!

  3. Song w/ Movements – Bodyparts by Johnette Downing

  4. A quick song that allows us to point out different parts of our body. Great for those baby just finding themselves in space.

  5. Stretch – This is Big Big Big…

This is big big big Hold (arms out to side) This is small small small (cup hands together) This is short short short (hold hands with palms facing each other) This is tall tall tall (reach one hand above head) This is fast fast fast (circle fists quickly) This is slow slow slow (circle fists slowly) This is yes yes yes (nod) This is no no no (shake head)

  1. Book – Counting Kisses by Karen Katz

  1. This is a great book for counting. We count, give kisses and identify the different parts of our body all in one book. I pass out books to each of the caregivers so we can also practice one-on-one reading.

  2. Finger Stretch – Fingers Like To…

  3. This is a fun one and is great to work on moving those fingers

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle WAY UP HIGH! Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle WAY DOWN LOW! How else to fingers like to wiggle? (wiggle on different body parts)

  1. Bounce – Tick-tock, Tick-tock

Tick tock, tick tock, I’m a little cuckoo clock. Tick tock, tick tock, now it’s one o’clock. Cuckoo! (Lift baby into the air) Continue with two, three, four and five o’clock.

  1. Song – The Wheels on the Bus

Just a fun movement song to break things up. We got new wrist ribbons so I am going to hand them out because I think they would work well with these movements.

  1. Book – Big Bear, Small Mouse by Karma WilsonI am adding movements as I read and the caregivers can follow along. I like this one because we work on identifying opposites.

  2. Movement Rhyme – Tiny Tim

I had a little Turtle, His name was Tiny Tim. I put him in the bathtub, To see if he could swim. He drank up all the water. And ate a bar of soap. And now he’s in his bed, With bubbles in his throat. Bubble, Bubble, Bubble, Bubble, Bubble, Bubble, Bubble, Bubble, Bubble Bubble, PoP!

  1. Bounce – I bounce you here, I bounce you there…

  2. This is a new favorite of mine. We love bouncing, tickling and hugging baby!

I bounce you here, I bounce you there I bounce you, bounce you everywhere I tickle you here, I tickle you there I tickle you, tickle you everywhere I hug you here, I hug you there I hug you, hug you everywhere

  1. Song w/ Shakers – On The Road Again by Joanie Bartell

  2. I love this version of this song and it’s a really fun one to shake to.

  3. Bubbles – Bubbles by Parachute Express

  4. The perfect song to play while blowing bubbles.

  5. Rhyme – Row, Row, Row Your Boat

  6. A slower rhyme to start winding down to.

  7. ASL – Goodbye Friends

  8. We learn to say goodbye in ASL and use the same signs and song as our hello.

  9. Song – Goodbye, So long, Farewell My Friends by Music Together

  10. Just a slow, goodbye song I always put on as I open the doors to say goodbye.

How’d it go: This was a great storytime and all of my materials worked really well together. I totally didn’t notice that I had a counting and opposites theme going, but a lot of my rhymes were complimentary to my stories. Love when that happens! Overall, a great storytime!

That’s all for now!
