Baby Storytime: 3/18/19

It’s baby storytime, time! Here is what we did this week:

  1. Hello Rhyme – Clap and Sing Hello

  2. This is a new hello song for me so we will see how it goes. I created a flip-chart with “hello” on one side and “goodbye” on the other. Same words, just sub hello/goodbye.

  3. ASL Baby Signs – CAR / HELICOPTER / BOAT

  1. I’ve decided that for the babies, instead of teaching them a rhyme in sign language, that I am going to start teaching three vocabulary words each time. I generally use Baby Sign Language.com to check my signs.

  2. Song – Rolls Your Hands by Toddlers on Parade

  3. I love this slow, easy movement song for babies.

  4. Board Book – Through The Town by Craig Shuttlewood

  5. I’ve actually done this one before… maybe a year ago. This is a great one to pass out because your caregiver can move babies fingers along the grooves (road) as we read the story.

  6. Action Rhyme – I’m An Airplane

  7. I actually did this one for family storytime a few weeks ago. And I think it will work even better with the babies in our laps.

I’m an airplane (repeat) Flying high (repeat) I can tilt this way (repeat) In the sky (repeat) I’m an airplane (repeat) Flying high (repeat) I can tilt that way (repeat) In the sky (repeat) I’m an airplane (repeat) Flying high (repeat) I can make a landing (repeat) From the sky (repeat)

  1. Flannel board – Cars & Colors

  1. Basically, I just told the kids that: “There are lots of cars driving down the street. What color do you see? Beep, Beep, Beep.” We also practiced our counting by counting out the cars as we went.

  2. Action Rhyme – Helicopter

  3. This is a new one for me and I love it! We do the ASL sign for “helicopter” and we use that sign to do the rhyme. I’m also playing with the idea of using BABY as the helicopter. I’ll try this one at home with my 24 pound toddler and see how my arms do!

Helicopter goes up Helicopter goes down Helicopter turns, turns all around

Helicopter goes left Helicopter goes right Helicopter goes up, up, and out of sight (hands behind back)

  1. Movement exercise – Have You Ever Seen A Sailboat

  2. Put baby on your lap and sway back and forth with the music. Or just sway with the older kids.

Have you ever seen a sailboat, a sailboard, a sailboat Have you ever seen a sailboat waving its sails. Wave this way, and that way. This way and that way. Have you every seen a sailboat, waving it’s sails!

  1. Song – The Wheels on the Bus by Toddlers on Parade

  2. I feel like I just did this song but… it’s a fan favorite!

  3. Book – Toot Toot, Beep Beep by Emma Garcia

  1. Lots of fun sounds in this one and goes with my kinda, sorta transportation theme.

  2. Lift – Tick Tock, Tick TockThis is a fun lapsit rhyme with a lift at the end as we “cuckoo!”

Tick tock, tick tock, I’m a little cuckoo clock. Tick tock, tick tock, now it’s one o’clock. Cuckoo! (Lift baby into the air) Continue with two and three o’clock.

  1. Lift/Bounce – Giddy-Up, Giddy-Up

  2. I love bounces!!!

Giddy-up, giddy up ride to town (bounce babies on knees) Giddy-up, giddy-up up and down (lift baby up and down) Giddy-up fast (bounce quickly) Giddy up slow (bounce slowly) Giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy-up, whoa! (dip baby backwards gently)

  1. Song/Shaker – On the Road Again by Joanie Bartels

  2. I can’t get over this song. I just want to sing the whole thing and it totally works for shakers!

  3. Song/Bubbles – Splish Splash by Mr. AI

  4. A totally appropriate bubble song. The eye muscles we use to track the bubbles are the same muscles we use when we read.

  5. Goodbye Rhyme – Clap and Sing Goodbye

  6. We end the same way we started.

  7. Song – Clean It Up

  8. Any good clean up song will work.

  9. Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by Music Together

  10. I will always put this one on in the background as everyone leaves because I just love it!

How’d it go:

We had quite a crowd today and lots of fun! Every seemed to really like Giddy-Up and I’m an Airplane. Overall, a successful baby storytime.

That’s all for now!
