Baby Storytime – 3/12/18

Another Baby Storytime and this week I am using a parachute for the first time! SO EXCITED!

  1. ASL – Hello Friends

  2. I like to use sign language in my story time. We go over the signs for: Hello, Friends, Time and Say. Thanks to Jbraryfor this one!

  3. Name Rhyme – Where is…

  4. If the group is small enough, I like to get to know everyone by sharing our names in a fun way.

Where is __________? Where is ___________?

There he/she is! There he/she is!

I’m so glad to see you! I’m so glad to see you!

Peek-a-boo! Peek-a-boo

  1. Movement – Five Wiggle Fingers

  2. This is a fun one and is great to work on moving those fingers.

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle.

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle WAY UP HIGH!

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle.

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle WAY DOWN LOW!

How else to fingers like to wiggle? (wiggle on different body parts)

  1. Board Book – Black Cat & White Cat by Claire Garralon

  1. I pass out a board book to each family and we read it once together and then I give the group a chance to read one-on-one. This is a great one for contrasting colors.

  2. Rhyme – The Itsy Bitsy Spider

  3. Babies just love this one and all the adults know it!

  4. Song – Bumping Up and Down in My Little Read Wagon by Raffi

  5. We bounce along on our caretakers laps to this one.

  6. Big Book – Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang

  1. This is a classic counting book. My little one loves to count, so I figured these little ones would love it too!

  2. Parachute – London Bridges Falling Down

  3. I put on a song version of this one and let the babies either crawl, sit in laps or lay down looking up at the chute.

  4. Parachute – If your happy and you know it give a shake…

  5. This is a fun rhyme to do with the parachute.

If your happy and you know it give a shake.

If your happy and you know it give a shake.

If your happy and you know it and you really want to show it,

if your happy and you know it give a shake.

(shake it fast / shake it slow / shake it high / shake it low)

  1. Bubbles – Bubbles by Parachute Express

  2. Yup. Bubbles will now be in all of my baby storytimes. They are great for strengthening eye muscles and for learning to move the eyes the same way we track words when we read.

  3. ASL – Goodbye Friends

  4. We learn to say goodbye in ASL and use the same signs and song as our hello.

  5. Song – Goodbye, So long, Farewell My Friends by Music Together

  6. Just a slow, goodbye song I always put on as I open the doors to say goodbye.

How’d it go: Well word must be spreading that Baby Storytime is weekly now because I must have had 30 babies! I’ve never had that many before, which meant…. I needed to switch things up on the go. I had to nix the parachute–it wasn’t big enough for that crowd–and instead I passed out scarves. I also added a few extra rhymes like, Trot to Boston, Patty Cake and I’m a Little Teapot. Overall, it was successful, but I think I am going to have to reevaluate for next week if the groups are going to be so big.

That’s all for now!
