Baby Storytime: 12/17/18

Hi Guys,

This is my last baby storytime until the new year! Hopefully it’ll tied everyone over 🙂

  1. Movement Rhyme – Wake Up…

  2. This is a fun stretch to get our bodies moving before storytime. And it is great for babies because it helps us identify our body parts. I got the lyrics from Jbrary but I’ve seen this one around before.

Wake up feet, wake up feet Wake up feet and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle Wake up feet, wake up feet Wake up and wiggle in the morning.

(Also: hands, ears, knees, fingers, hips, etc.)

  1. ASL – The More We Get Together

  2. We first teach the kids the signs for: More, Together, Happy & Friends. Then incorporate the signs as we sing the song. Check out Signing Savvy or Baby Sign Language to learn these signs.

  3. Song – Hands are for Clapping by Jim Gill

  4. Jim Gill just has some wonderful, easy, slow movement songs for little guys.

  5. Board Book/Flannel – Bundle Up by Jennifer Sattler

  6. For this one, I passed out the board book to everyone but I also thought it was the perfect story for a flannel. So we read together and I also included the flannel for an extra layer of fun!

  1. Finger Stretch – Fingers Like To…

  2. This is a fun one and is great to work on moving those fingers

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. WAY UP HIGH! Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. WAY DOWN LOW!

How else do fingers like to wiggle? (wiggle on different body parts)

  1. Finger Play – Five Little Snowmen

  2. Another fun one that you could to a flannel for. Instead we are going to use our fingers.

Five little snowmen standing in a row (hold up 5 fingers) Each with a hat (pat head) and a big red bow (pull at neck like a bow tie) Along came the sun (arms form big circle over head)  And it shone all day (lean to the left) And one of those snowmen melted away! (put down one finger)

Continue until there are no snowmen left.

Song/Scarves – Shake Your Scarves by Johnette Downing

  1. Using our scarves we follow along with the music.

  2. Rhyme – Open and Shut Them

  3. This is a really simple song for practicing those hand movements.

  4. Book – Millions of Snowflakes by Mary McKenna Siddals

  5. I know this is a really small book… but I really want to use it!

  6. Lift – Tick Tock, Tick Tock

  7. This is a fun lapsit rhyme with a lift at the end as we “cuckoo!”

Tick tock, tick tock, I’m a little cuckoo clock. Tick tock, tick tock, now it’s one o’clock. Cuckoo! (Lift baby into the air) Continue with two and three o’clock.

  1. Bounce – Trot Trot to Boston

  2. Obviously another classic bounce.

  3. Song/Shakers – Rockin’ Robin by Joanie Bartels

  4. Such a good beat with this one.

  5. Song/Bubbles – Splish Splash by Mr. Ai

  6. Who doesn’t love a good song and some bubbles!

  7. ASL – The More We Get Together

  8. I like to end with the same sign language song we used in the beginning.

  9. Song – Clean It Up

  10. Any good clean up song will work.

  11. Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by Music Together

  12. I will always put this one on in the background as everyone leaves because I just love it!

How’d it go:

This was a really old crowd. Only about 20% were actually in the correct age rang, which made it hard because I didn’t want to edit my storytime for the older kids because this is a baby storytime. Everything worked out but it felt a little off because of how big the age range was. Oh well. We’ll start back up fresh in the new year!

That’s all for now!
