Hi Guys, time for another baby storytime! Here is what I have planned this week:
Movement Rhyme – Wake Up…
This is a fun stretch to get our bodies moving before storytime. And it is great for babies because it helps us identify our body parts. I got the lyrics from Jbrary but I’ve seen this one around before.
Wake up feet, wake up feet Wake up feet and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle Wake up feet, wake up feet Wake up and wiggle in the morning.
(Also: hands, ears, knees, fingers, hips, etc.)
ASL – The More We Get Together
We first teach the kids the signs for: More, Together, Happy & Friends. Then incorporate the signs as we sing the song. Check out Signing Savvy or Baby Sign Language to learn these signs.
Song – Roll Your Hands by Toddlers on ParadeSuch a soothing song and easy movements for those little ones.
Board Book – Babies Around The World by Puck
This is a brand new book for the library and is about the different ways we say hello in different countries. I’m gonna give those languages my best try!
Finger Stretch – Fingers Like To…
This is a fun one and is great to work on moving those fingers
Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. WAY UP HIGH! Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle. WAY DOWN LOW!

Rhyme – Patty Cake
I always forget about my classics and this is one most babies love!
Flannel – Three Little Kittens
This is a flannel I made awhile ago. It’s small but it works.
Song – The Wheels on the Bus
Just your classic wheels on the bus movement song to break things up with.
Book/Scarves – I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More by Karen Beaumont
I do this one at least quarterly because I love it. I “sing” the book and we use scarves to paint our different body parts. Great for body identification and fun using those scarves with the babies.
Lift – Grand Old Duke of York
One I haven’t done in ages!
Bounce – Trot Trot to Boston
Obviously a day for classics!
Song/Shakers – Shake it to the East by Reach for the Stars!
This song prompts us to move our shakers in different directions.
Song/Bubbles – Bubbles by Parachute Express
I love the bubble maker for the babies. Bubbles help babies because the same eye muscles the use to track the bubbles as they move, are the same muscles they will later use for reading.
ASL – The More We Get Together
I like to end with the same sign language song we used in the beginning.
Song – Clean It Up
Any good clean up song will work.
Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by Music Together
I will always put this one on in the background as everyone leaves because I just love it!
How’d it go: Pheww this was a really off storytime for me. First, we only had four babies to start–up to ten total–and then I totally butchered by first book. I really need to practice any with other languages ahead of time. Then, because we had such a small group, I skipped a bunch of my planned stuff and thought I’d brake out my mini parachute. Nope. Still too small. Everyone said they had fun but it was definitely an off day for me. Oh well, next week I have Halloween things planned… my favorite holiday!
