All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace is the first book in a new fantasy series.
Amora Montara is the princess of the island kingdom of Visidia. She has been hidden away her whole life for her own “protection.” But the time for her to prove to her people that she will be the next great ruler, has come. To secure her place on the throne she must demonstrate her mastery of soul magic, a dangerous magic only meant for the Montara family.
When the demonstration goes awry Amora must rely on a stranger named Bastian, who is a pirate and seaman. He promises to help Amora regain her thrown if she helps him return to his home and reclaim his own stolen magic.
Together, the two will sail the kingdom, witnessing all of the wonders and horrors it holds.
This was one of the audio books I’ve been listening to recently. Usually, audio books suck me in even more than some print books, but I just couldn’t get into this one. I don’t know if it is everything going on in the world right now or having to multitask at home with a full-time job, a toddler, and a baby on the way, but I just could not concentrate enough to really get into this story. This is so strange for me because an island, seafaring adventure mixed with magical factions and flirtatious pirates, would normally soo be up my ally.
I definitely see some potential here as the story-line continues into the next series but I do hope the characters develop a little further. I found Amora and Bastian to be pretty predictable; I kept waiting for a betrayal or something to make them more dynamic. There were definitely surprises in the story but the characters themselves didn’t call to me.
This was OK. Like I said, probably everything going on, but I am going to give it a mediocre three stars.
That’s all for now!
