A Cup of Silver Linings by Karen Hawkins is the second book in the Dove Pond series.
We return to Dove Pond where the sixth Dove sister, Ava Dove, is buckling under the pressure of opening a new tea shop and harboring a secret that could ruin everything.
Ava's big opening is only a few weeks away and is super excited for her new tea house to open. Ava is famous for her teas; from curing lovesickness to easing arthritis pain, Ava's teas work like magic. So, when three of her teas cause horrible side affects for their drinkers, the town begins to question Ava's work and her businesses are threatened.
If only wonky teas, weren't the only issue. But Ava has a secret. A secret she has locked up for years, which won't be contained for much longer.
Meanwhile, just a few door down, sixteen-year-old Kristen Foster has had her life torn apart. Her beloved mother has passed away and on top of her grief, she now has to deal with a bossy grandmother she barely remembers.
Ellen, didn't even know her estranged daughter was sick, when she got the invitation to her funeral. And now, with many unresolved feelings of her own, Ellen must convince a stubborn sixteen-year-old to leave the only home she has ever known and move home with her.
Can Ava save her reputation and keep her secret from escaping? Will Ellen and Kirsten figure out a way to meet in the middle? Or will Dove pond have to face the consequences of both?
I love magical realism. And coming back to Dove Pond was just a breath of fresh air during a stressful time. I love that, even though the book is focusing on Ava, Sarah is still there in the background and we get some of the loose ends we were missing in The Book Charmer.
Both Ava and Kirsten's stories were compelling, even if I was looking for the romance of Ava and Sarah's stories, just a smidgen more. I k
ept making all these guesses as to who Kirsten's dad was going to end up being and even know I guessed right, it was so not in the way I guessed.
Ultimately, I can't wait to meet all of the Dove sister's and get some more Ava/Dylan, Sarah/Blake action. I'm so in it for these potential relationships!
That's all for now!
