Time for another Baby Storytime! Here is what we did this week:
Hello Rhyme – Clap and Sing Hello
This is a new hello song for me so we will see how it goes. I created a flip-chart with “hello” on one side and “goodbye” on the other. Same words, just sub hello/goodbye.
ASL Baby Signs – HELLO / PLEASE / EAT
I’ve decided that for the babies, instead of teaching them a rhyme in sign language, that I am going to start teaching three vocabulary word
s each time. I generally use
Baby Sign Language.com to check my signs.
Song – Clap, Tap, Bend by It’s Toddler Time
This is a very simple movement song. It’s perfect for our youngest babies.
Board Book – Penguin Says “Please” by Michael DahlI’ve been trying to pick out new board books lately and this one worked great with our ASL sign for “please.” Every page we flipped we could practice our sign. Repetition is so important and by passing out the books we promote one-on-one reading.
Stretch – This is…
I love this one. It’s so much fun to make the movements and it actually starts to get the kids thinking about opposites.
This is big big big Hold (arms out to side) This is small small small (cup hands together) This is short short short (hold hands with palms facing each other) This is tall tall tall (reach one hand above head) This is fast fast fast (circle fists quickly) This is slow slow slow (circle fists slowly) This is yes yes yes (nod) This is no no no (shake head)
Action Story – Every Color Soup by Jorey Hurley
I was going to make a flannel board for this but there were too many pieces and I rant out of time. Instead we did pretend-play and practiced putting things in our pretend pots.
Rhyme – I’m a little tea pot
No need to post the words for these next two. I know you all know how they are done. I love to throw in the classics here and there because you can tell the parents love them.
Rhyme – Patty Cake
Another much loved classic!
Song – Wheels on the Bus by Toddlers on Parade
I actually changed this one and did a train song. We clapped along and bounced as if we were on a real train.
Book – Say Hello! by Linda Davick
This was another book where we got to practice our signs. We said hello using out sign language and also saw other ways to say hello.
Lift – Up and Down in an Elevator
Going up and down in an elevator. Up and down in an elevator. Up and down in an elevator. 1st floor. 2nd floor. 3rd floor. DOWN!
Bounce – This is the way the lady rides
We love how this one goes faster and faster and faster!
This is the way the lady rides, Lady rides, lady rides, This is the way the lady rides. On her way to town.
This is the way the gentleman rides, Gentleman rides, gentleman rides, This is the way the gentleman rides. On his way to town.
This is the way the doctor rides, Doctor rides, doctor rides, This is the way the doctor rides. On his way to town.
This is the way the cowboy rides, Cowboy rides, cowboy rides, This is the way the cowboy rides. On his way to town.
Song/Shaker – Locomotion by Joanie Bartels
Song/Bubbles – I took a bath in a washing machine by Jim Gill
I can’t get over this song! And it is the perfect length for my bubble maker.
Goodbye Rhyme – Clap and Sing Goodbye
We end the same way we started.
Song – Clean It Up
Any good clean up song will work.
Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by Music Together
I will always put this one on in the background as everyone leaves because I just love it!
How’d it go:
Well, we were quite antsy this week. My older guys, who are juuuust starting to age out, had a hard time getting those wiggles under control this week. But I think we still had fun, even if we were a little distracted.
That’s all for now!
