Baby Storytime: 12/10/18

Hi Guys, only a few more baby storytime sessions left this year! Here is what we did today:

  1. Movement Rhyme – Wake Up…

  2. This is a fun stretch to get our bodies moving before storytime. And it is great for babies because it helps us identify our body parts. I got the lyrics from Jbrary but I’ve seen this one around before.

Wake up feet, wake up feet Wake up feet and wiggle, wiggle, wiggle Wake up feet, wake up feet Wake up and wiggle in the morning.

(Also: hands, ears, knees, fingers, hips, etc.)

  1. ASL – The More We Get Together

untitled
  1. We first teach the kids the signs for: More, Together, Happy & Friends. Then incorporate the signs as we sing the song. Check out Signing Savvy or Baby Sign Language to learn these signs.

  2. Song – Skidamarink by Six Little Ducks

  3. This is a classic song with simple movements.

  4. Board Book – Peek-A-Moo! by Marie Torres Cimarusti

  5. I pass out board books to each of the families and this way we can flip the flaps together.

  6. Finger Play – Fe Fi Fo Fum

untitled

Fe fi fo fum. (Touch each finger with thumb-one finger per syllable.) See my fingers. (Hold up four fingers.) See my thumb. (Hold up thumb.) Fe fi fo fum. (Touch each finger with thumb again.)

  1. Book/Puppets – Spots, Feathers and Curly Tails by Nancy Tafuri

  2. I’ve been trying to use more puppets lately and this is a great one to do. I will have to substitute a goat for the bull, but it should still work.

  3. Song – Roll, Roll, Roll Your Hands by Toddlers on Parade

  4. A simple song with easy movements.

  5. Rhyme – I’m a Little Teapot

  6. Everyone loves this classic rhyme.

  7. Big Book – I Love You Sun, I Love You Moon by Tomie DePaola

  1. This  is a cute big book and I have a flipchart of the words in Spanish.

  2. Lift – Up, Up, Up

  3. This is one I made up and I think it’s fun!

Up, up, up (lift baby up) Down, down, down (bring baby back down) Up, down, up, down (up and down motion) And tickles all around (tickle baby)

  1. Bounce – I bounce you here, I bounce you there…We love our bounces and lifts in baby storytime.

I bounce you here, I bounce you there I bounce you, bounce you everywhere I tickle you here, I tickle you there I tickle you, tickle you everywhere I hug you here, I hug you there I hug you, hug you everywhere

  1. Song/Shakers – Mr. Sun by Raffi

  2. A cute kid song to shake our shakers to.

  3. Song/Bubbles – Took a bath in a washing machine by Jim Gill

  4. Who doesn’t love a good song and some bubbles!

  5. ASL – The More We Get Together

  6. I like to end with the same sign language song we used in the beginning.

  7. Song – Clean It Up

  8. Any good clean up song will work.

  9. Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by Music Together

  10. I will always put this one on in the background as everyone leaves because I just love it!

How’d it go:

I did a little editing this time because when we started, there were only two of us! but after the first 5-10 minutes we ended up with 8 kids, which is still fairly small for my group. But it was fun to sit on the floor right in front of my first two kiddos and do some peek-a-boo and name rhymes. After than, everything went as usual. So all is well 🙂

That’s all for now!
